What is it?
A social is a pre-wedding fundraising party, but also a cultural touchstone and a Manitoba-grown tradition. In many parts of Canada (and in some places in the US!), you'll find similar events under a number of names, such as: Stag and Doe party, Stag and Drag party, Hen and Stag party, Buck and Doe party, a Jack and Jill party, a Shag, but here in Manitoba, it's all about socials.
The event held a few weeks or months before the wedding and is thrown by the wedding party or by the happy couple themselves. Socials come in all shapes and sizes, but most of these events feature prize draws, great food, lots of drinks, a DJ and dancing, with an entrance ticket required for admission to the hall. It's an opportunity to raise funds for the wedding or for the couple to get set up in their new life together, but also it's also a chance to have a celebration with a larger circle of people than can be reasonably invited to the wedding itself. Socials are also frequently run as community, team, and charitable fundraisers.
We've got all the resources you need to run a banging social. Get to it!
