Raffle Tickets

Often called "Silent Auction" tickets, raffle tickets are an imporant component of a Manitoba Social.

Types of Raffle Tickets

Raffle tickets come in two common types, rolls of individual tickets and sheets of 20-25 tickets each. Tickets on rolls are sold individually, or by the "wingspan".

Typically, rolls of tickets are used for grand prizes and 50-50 draws, and sheets of tickets are used for regular prize draws.

A wingspan of tickets is the number of tickets that fit across from furthest fingertips of the outstretched arms of the buyer. 50-50 tickets are commonly sold this way.

How many to buy

The short answer on "how many" is to buy more tickets than you think you will need. Many stores that sell raffle tickets will happily accept unopened packs for return, so ask first and keep your receipt.

A rough calculation you can use is to multiply a "typical" number of tickets a guest would buy times the capacity of guests at your event, and double or triple it for safety.

Where to buy them

There are a couple of stores in Winnipeg that sell raffle tickets. Party Stuff and Labelle Printers are great stores to check. You can also buy them at some Dollar stores, although it is good to check that the per-unit price is actually cheaper than regular stores, and know that Dollar stores do not often accept returns of any kind. Some ticket printing companies will also sell standard raffle tickets, and it may be worthwhile to see if you can get it all done at one place: Ticket printing companies.

You can also always shop online for tickets, although it's worthwhile to look into the return policy and consider return shipping costs for when you are unloading excess tickets after your event.

The most cost-effective solution can be to search on Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji for people who are selling off their excess tickets.

While it's not a common problem, always double check that the ranges of numbers on your tickets are not duplicated.
