We had really nice meals at the Tavern, and in the restaurant the following morning. Staff was also really friendly. What did not enjoy is the urine stains in the tile below the toilet as well as the buildup of dirt around the showers. The fireplace in the room was not in working order, and the furniture was worn down. The hotel could really use an update and some maintenance as well as a deep clean. I don’t think all the fake plants have been cleaned in many years, it’s giving them a very outdated look with dust covered plants. The lounge and bathrooms were clean, and the service was great there as well. We opted out of the pool area as the chlorine burned our eyes as soon as we entered in the pool room, it could use a little more ventilation in my opinion, we stayed in room 251. Oh, and there was also some kind of stain on the table, as well as tile needing repair by the fireplace. I shouldn’t have to bring the cleanliness up to the staff at the time of stay, these items should just be done before guests check in. It seems like common sense to me and good business, I noticed these items after we unpacked everything and it wasn’t a dealbreaker for me. It was just a little bit gross. If we were staying for more than one night, I probably would’ve requested the room to be cleaned again, or moved to another one.
I definitely did not have a Jacuzzi bath because I use my imagination with what was potentially inside the jet system based on what was on the floor.
Staff were great, hotel needs some maintenance and updating.
I got 2 rooms queen rooms one had stains on the sheets in which they exchanged rooms for us. The beds were comfortable, and the water slide was fun.The only inconvenience is bringing a console,You had to ask for a remote to switch hdmi as people were stealing them. The couches can be used as a pull out bed, but in my opinion, they are hard, so I'd recommend getting another room if you have extra guests.
Had some delicious appetizers at the Tavern and stayed the night. Rooms were clean and pool was warm and everyone had a great time . Will definitely stay again !!
Rooms are very dated. Bathroom seriously needs update. Silicone around tub was gross. Housecleaning came in to clean. That picked up towels, never left toilet paper or Kleenex. Had to go ask.
Restaurant was a story in itself. Waited 10 minutes to be seated which was fine. As we got seated server ask what we would like to drink. She proceeded to bring my hot water. Also brought a very dirty glass of cold water with floating things in it. Still no coffee. Had to ask 3x to get coffee. By this time 45 minutes went by. Finally came with a coffee. As we were running out of time decided to order just toast and pb. Toast arrived in timely fashion but it was ice cold and hard. Pool area was great for the kids
Honestly was a decent trip!
We go away every Christmas break with our young kids to a hotel solely for the purpose of swimming and restaurants. This was our first time at Canad Inns portage. It was easy to get too, the hotel is a bit dated but honestly the lobby and balcony is done in nice stone work and wood and my husband and I really enjoyed the rustic 90s feel haha. The staff was amazing- we had Ashely . I called the day prior to see if we could get an earlier check in and Ashely said it shouldn't be an issue but to call back the day of to double check. So we called back the next day and Ashely was there again, and said not a problem. We were able to check in at 1:30-2pm instead of the usual 4. It gave us more time swimming with the kids. The pool was decent temp and the splash park, mushroom, and waterslide were a hit . Hot tub was clean too! We had breakfast at Aalto's- server was friendly and easy to talk too, they had weekday breakfast specials on and we happen to be checking in on a Sunday- leaving on a Monday- so Monday breakfast was a cheap $4.99 for pancakes or eggs, bacon, toast etc. good for for a good price. Upon checking out, I told Ashely I didn't need a printed receipt- a email would do just fine, and we were on our way home. To my surprise , my email receipt showed our king suite was " coming home for the holidays" at a discounted rate compared to what it was when I originally booked and checked in. After taxes , it was still $55 cheaper than the original quote so that was a very nice Christmas surprise! - we had a king bedroom suite, so the kids could sleep on the pullout couch and air mattress , while husband and I shut the bedroom door and hid out in the room watching tv later into the night without disturbing the kids. The balcony which are room was on was very quiet and no outside noise. We would stay here again! Great for families!
