Beware, if you pay by credit card you will not receive your deposit money back for 4-5 days. They do not have any signage at the desk explaining this. I was told when I checked in that I would get my deposit back when I checked out. Management knows this is how their system works. This is an unnecessary inconvenience. I worked 10yrs with tons of hotel stays, this is not the norm. They have chosen to do this and not warn their customers first. My room only had one window that looked to the indoors (facing front desk) no windows to the outdoors. Bed had no firmness, over stuffed bad of cotton balls, u sink deep into the 'mattress '
clean room, friendly staff
what a crappie end to an adequate stay. totally avoidable.
Rooms are very dated. Bathroom seriously needs update. Silicone around tub was gross. Housecleaning came in to clean. That picked up towels, never left toilet paper or Kleenex. Had to go ask.
Restaurant was a story in itself. Waited 10 minutes to be seated which was fine. As we got seated server ask what we would like to drink. She proceeded to bring my hot water. Also brought a very dirty glass of cold water with floating things in it. Still no coffee. Had to ask 3x to get coffee. By this time 45 minutes went by. Finally came with a coffee. As we were running out of time decided to order just toast and pb. Toast arrived in timely fashion but it was ice cold and hard. Pool area was great for the kids
Lorraine needs to get a raise!
She’s awesome! It looked like she was working by herself with a line up of people and she was doing a million different things. She was keeping it all together. A smile on her face the whole time. She was absolutely amazing. There was an older gentleman too who was equally great. He was delivering 12 pillows to 12 different rooms. I think his name was Ron
They were both so good!
Went to Canad Inns Restaurant Portage la Prairie. The Greater was very pleasant and helpful. She helped my parents out with payment etc. as they are in their late 80's and she did this in a very professional, patient, and caring manner. Very appreciated! had the buffet and salad bar soup..... perogies, meat balls, home made mac and cheese, chicken, pork tenderloin was juicy, and the fish was very nice with a house made sauce. Duty manager came by a few times and he was very positive and upbeat disposition which was a nice touch. Chef's at the buffet super friendly and helpful. desserts and ice cream was awesome also.
Honestly was a decent trip!
We go away every Christmas break with our young kids to a hotel solely for the purpose of swimming and restaurants. This was our first time at Canad Inns portage. It was easy to get too, the hotel is a bit dated but honestly the lobby and balcony is done in nice stone work and wood and my husband and I really enjoyed the rustic 90s feel haha. The staff was amazing- we had Ashely . I called the day prior to see if we could get an earlier check in and Ashely said it shouldn't be an issue but to call back the day of to double check. So we called back the next day and Ashely was there again, and said not a problem. We were able to check in at 1:30-2pm instead of the usual 4. It gave us more time swimming with the kids. The pool was decent temp and the splash park, mushroom, and waterslide were a hit . Hot tub was clean too! We had breakfast at Aalto's- server was friendly and easy to talk too, they had weekday breakfast specials on and we happen to be checking in on a Sunday- leaving on a Monday- so Monday breakfast was a cheap $4.99 for pancakes or eggs, bacon, toast etc. good for for a good price. Upon checking out, I told Ashely I didn't need a printed receipt- a email would do just fine, and we were on our way home. To my surprise , my email receipt showed our king suite was " coming home for the holidays" at a discounted rate compared to what it was when I originally booked and checked in. After taxes , it was still $55 cheaper than the original quote so that was a very nice Christmas surprise! - we had a king bedroom suite, so the kids could sleep on the pullout couch and air mattress , while husband and I shut the bedroom door and hid out in the room watching tv later into the night without disturbing the kids. The balcony which are room was on was very quiet and no outside noise. We would stay here again! Great for families!
