My husband and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary at Mariaggi’s, and we had a wonderful time! We stayed in the Egypt room, which exceeded our expectations with its spacious layout and immaculate cleanliness. The room was beautifully maintained, and we thoroughly enjoyed the luxurious amenities, including the steam shower, sauna, and jacuzzi.
While our overall experience was fantastic, there were a couple of minor inconveniences. The ice machine was out of order, and the property didn’t have champagne buckets for ice, so we improvised with a reusable bag to get ice from the staff fridge—an amusing workaround, in hindsight! Additionally, for those planning to watch live sports, it’s worth noting that the rooms are equipped with smart TVs, which meant my husband couldn’t stream his football game—a small issue, but worth mentioning.
Overall, we had a great stay and are already looking forward to returning in the future. Mariaggi’s provided an excellent setting for a memorable anniversary celebration!
My wife and I had our 13th anniversary here and it was so romantic. An amazing hidden gem in the heart of the exchange district. Wonderful rooms, extremely friendly staff who are very accommodating. Egypt room was beautifully done, pool table, hot tub and sauna kept us busy all night! Cooling off on the balcony was an added bonus. Would stay again! Can't wait to see how there other rooms look.
Great spot for a staycations or romantic getaways with your partner. We stayed at the Caribbean suite. The room was cozy and intimate (added by the mood lighting and lit candles from the romance package) and the bed was quite comfortable, the bedding didn’t reek of bleach or starchiness which made for a very comfortable sleep. We also ordered dinner for the first night and it was really good! Greek salad, phenomenal breadsticks, Cannolini in Neapolitan sauce, chicken scaloppini (which was my favourite by far!), and finished off with cheesecake. The jacuzzi tubs in the suites are highlights for sure! It was great snuggling up to my partner in the bath and watching movies. Nearly every light switch is dimmable. We got a lovely tour with Jason through the hotel, its history, and what they are planning in the coming years. The staff were friendly and helpful, Lowell the current owner is a sweetheart! It’s a beautiful historic building with a lot of charm and surprisingly quiet considering it’s so close to downtown. Definitely will be checking out the other rooms over the years (my partner wants Egypt and I Japan)
Where do I begin… I guess at the front desk… we were greeted by someone in a stained polo shirt who checked us in at a front desk littered with random papers that boasted their high ratings as a hotel. While we stood at the desk a random figure appeared wearing a dirty hoodie and pants. He was introduced to us (I can’t remember his name but he said he was the owners best friend). Then we were told he would show us to our room, but not until we had been taken on a tour of the hotel (to give Stained Polo a chance to lights candles in our room). Dirty Hoodie instructed us to leave our bag on a chair by the front desk, assuring us no one take it (if I wasn’t concerned about that before I was at that point). Then we got taken down random hallways and shown pictures of all of the other people who had graced these halls at some point or another. He also laid out their whole expansion plan… a bar, a restaurant, a new three suites… the reason behind his grubby attire - we were informed. We were offered a half used bottle of essential oils out of a dusty display tray to use “as long as we didn’t take it home”. Then finally we were taken back to our bag. Dirty Hoodie then grabbed the bag and let us up some creaky stairs to the second floor where our Cuba room awaited. He unlocked the door, let us in, then followed us (shutting the door behind him) and dropped our bag unceremoniously onto the bed. At this point the three of us stood in the room and he watched our faces to take in our reaction to the decor. Now the room itself was quite cool and very on theme, but with my brain trying to comprehend if our anniversary celebration was going to have a plus one, we weren’t exactly forthcoming with our first impressions of the room. Dirty Hoodie went on to wander around the room in his equally dirty shoes…stepping into the shower and sauna to push buttons on the wall in an attempt to give us instructions that were completely lost on us in the perplexity of the situation we found ourselves in. When he finally did leave we were left to inspect our room. We discovered that the door had no privacy chain which seemed concerning - considering how personally invested Dirty Hoodie seemed in our stay. The room theme was very impressively carried throughout. It was also quite clean which I was very thankful for. The linens were all dark coloured which I would have preferred to be white as it would have ensured that they were being bleached between clients. The sheets were also a green colour which I understand for the theme, but for a $575/night hotel I’d have loved some more quality linens. Also, I can’t be sure who on their staff is a seamstress, but a hole in the pillowcase had been darned instead of replacing the pillowcase, so that was just an added touch of class. There was also a couch in the corner (pictured) that I fondly named the Jizz Couch. As my husband aptly pointed out it likely wouldn’t pass the black light test. Later in the evening we got ready for a bubble bath in the 20 jet jacuzzi. Stripped down only to find that none of the jets worked. As there were no instructions included with any of the sauna, steam shower, or bath, we were turning every knob and button we could to no avail. There was also no phone in the room, so we would have had to get back into our clothes in order to go to the front desk and ask for help. Which of course, we could have done, but it also came with the risk of Dirty Hoodie showing up in his swimming trunks and asking if he could join us.
By the morning we were ready to leave.
We made our way down to the front desk and thought we would have to ring the bell for service as no one was in sight. However, we soon heard the sharp intake of breath indicating someone was rousing from their sleep behind us and turned around just in time to see an employee we had not met yet rising from the couch. He was inexplicably also clad in a dirty hoodie. Before he had a chance to offer us another tour, we left our keys and got out of dodge. Not the professionalism or quality you expect when paying luxury prices.
This company puts a lot of effort for the convenience for each client that stays.
